Rest In Peace, Peggy Cummins (1925 – 2017)

It pains me so much that my first post of 2018 is such a heartbreaking one for me to write. Peggy had such an incredible life and filmography, but I’ll never forget her as Annie Laurie Starr in one of the most iconic noir films of all time, Gun Crazy (1950). She gave my favorite female performance in any film noir without a doubt, and the way that her larger than life personality exploded onscreen in that role in particular impresses me to this day. I had already bought this picture of her to sign and wrote her a heartfelt letter to go along with it, but I was still trying to work out the international postage so I never got to send it and tell her how much I loved her. It’s times like this when I find myself terribly exasperated with myself for choosing classic film and its stars as my lifelong passion. All too often we fans have to deal with the pain of losing the ones we’ve adored on the silver screen. She may have been 92, but to me she left this world much too soon.
