Rest in Peace, Tab Hunter (1931 – 2018)

This news has yet to fully circulate and so far has only been reported by the official page for Tab’s documentary, Tab Hunter Confidential (2015). I’ve still been hoping deep down in my heart that it isn’t true, but unfortunately it appears to be so. Tab was an incredible and sweet human being who lived his truth and had such an underappreciated talent that sparkled onscreen. He never once forgot his fans even long after he stopped appearing in movies, and his amazing documentary taught the world that it’s never too late to accept yourself for who you are and love who you want no matter what. Tab was right at the top of my list of actors that I still wanted to write to as I’ve adored him in so many films, especially in The Burning Hills (1956) and The Girl He Left Behind (1958), the two films that he appeared in with Natalie Wood, as well as Ride the Wild Surf (1964), one of the most endearing sixties surf films that I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame that I never got the chance to fully articulate what an impact his work and his honesty have had on me. He’ll be so, so missed, and my thoughts are with his partner Allan during this exceedingly difficult time.
